The Kardashians and Protein World have a few things in common – neither are strangers to controversy or idealizing unrealistic bodies. Protein World had an ad a few years ago that was accused of body shaming women. Now in London Tube stations, Protein World has another controversial advertisement, but this one is featuring Khloe Kardashian.
The ad features Khloe in a revealing leotard showing off many of her fit curves. The advertisement asks “Can you keep up with a Kardashian?”
Many Londoners are not happy with this new ad, including a Green Assembly member, Caroline Russell, and she’s asking London’s Mayor, Sadiq Khan, to take action.
“Young people receive this negative message from enough social media channels and it’s appalling that this is being reinforced on Tube platforms, against the Mayor’s own policy, when people are taking trips to school, to work, or going out to socialize,” she said, “I am urging the Mayor to look again at these adverts that challenge young people to ‘keep up’ with reality stars known for idealised and unrealistic body shapes.”
A spokesperson for the Mayor has claimed that the ad was closely reviewed and approved to not be harmful or offensive.
