Niall Horan‘s first solo release had some wondering if it was another indication that the boys of One Direction were done as a band.
However, the “This Town” singer has actually given fans more hope than ever that 1D will reunite some day.
While recently appearing on The Graham Norton Show, the 23-year-old pop star opened up about his solo music, and said he decided to release it on a whim after he returned from a backpacking trip with his cousins.
“When I got back from Asia I just started doing acoustic stuff—the stuff I grew up on—and thought, ‘Maybe I should release them. They’re actually not that bad,'” he explained. “I am 100 percent relieved that people like it. I’ve been sitting on it for so long and keeping it a secret. It was a nerve-wracking time. It’s always been a daunting prospect but the reaction has been insane.”
When asked about whether or not 1D’s hiatus would become permanent, Horan admitted they’ll all be working on separate projects for a while, but also have every intention of getting back together.
“For now we are doing our own thing,” he said. “We can’t put a date on it but it won’t be in fifty years time. It’s in the foreseeable future. We’ve talked about it but for now we’ll just play by ear and see what happens.”
