Following statements from Angelina Jolie‘s attorney and manager, Brad Pitt has broken his silence on their divorce.
In a statement to People, the 52-year-old actor expressed his regret for the end of their marriage, but reaffirmed the sentiment that the former couple is doing what’s best for their family.
“I am very saddened by this, but what matters most now is the well-being of our kids,” he said of the divorce. “I kindly ask the press to give them the space they deserve during this challenging time.”
Pitt’s statement comes amid rumors that Jolie filed for divorce because of ongoing fights about how to raise their six children, Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne and Knox.
TMZ also reported that the 41-year-old actress was concerned over her estranged husband’s alleged use of drugs and alcohol, as well as his supposed “anger problem.”
“Angelina will always do what’s in the best interest of taking care of her family,” Jolie’s manager Geyer Kosinski said in a statement. “She appreciates everyone’s understanding of their need for privacy at this time.”
The two stars, who recently celebrated their second wedding anniversary, have been together since 2004.
