Miley Cyrus certainly doesn’t march to the same beat as the stereotypical celebrity, and her most recent vow has veered her even further off that path.
While speaking to Elle for their October issue, the “Wrecking Ball” singer revealed that she would “never do a red carpet again.”
“Why, when people are starving, am I on a carpet that’s red? Because I’m ‘important’? Because I’m ‘famous’?” she asked. “That’s not how I roll. It’s like a skit—it’s like Zoolander.”
The 23-year-old pop superstar was asked about her comments while guesting on The Today Show this morning, and she doubled-down on her boycott, despite upcoming events for The Voice.
“It’s really not about the color of the carpet,” she said when Carson Daly offered to change things up for her. “It’s more about, especially women, we get yelled at to blow them a kiss, and I don’t feel like blowing you a kiss.”
“[The photographers] yell, ‘Blow us a kiss!’ Like what is going on? Who are you? And then you’re just kind of putting yourself out there for people to talk,” she continued. “I don’t want people to talk about what I’m wearing. That’s usually why I don’t wear too much, but they make me wear clothes on The Voice and on the Today show, so this is what I chose.”
Things also got a little awkward when Cyrus was asked about her sizable engagement ring, which was given to her by her rumored fiancee Liam Hemsworth.
Redirecting the attention to her costume jewelry, Cyrus said she choice the fruity accessories because they were “cute.”
When it came time to address her diamond ring, she simply quipped, “I didn’t pick this out.”
