Simone Biles wants her thousands of fans to know that she did not have an unfair advantage at the Olympics.
The 19-year-old four-time gold medal winner was recently the victim of an online hack which resulted in the release of her private medical records from the World Anti-Doping Agency’s athlete database.
In the leaked documents, it reveals that Biles, as well as U.S. athletes such as Venus and Serena Williams, all tested positive for drugs that are typically banned by WADA.
However, they were all given medical exemptions, leading Biles to feel the need to explain herself via Twitter this afternoon.
“I have had ADHD and I have taken medicine for it since I was a kid,” she wrote. “Please know, I believe in clean sport, have always followed the rules, and will continue to do so as fair play is critical to sport and is very important to me.”
In an official statement, the World Anti-Doping Agency said, “WADA deeply regrets this situation and is very conscious of the threat that it represents to athletes whose confidential information has been divulged through this criminal act.”
