It was revealed back in March that Zendaya had been cast in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot, Spider-Man: Homecoming.
Since that time, her character had been kept under wraps, but now, it looks like we finally know who she’ll be playing!
According to a report by The Wrap, the singer/actress will portray none other than Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parker’s (Tom Holland) love interest.
Previously, director Jon Watts had said in an interview with Entertainment Weekly that Zendaya’s character would be named ‘Michelle,’ but now, fans are thinking that was just a misdirect.
While some have since complained about the ‘race issue,’ (Mary Jane is white in the comics), others have pondered how they will handle the fact that MJ is famously a redhead.
Well, it turns out, Zendaya looks stunning with red hair, if she chooses to dye it for the role:
Amid the backlash, Dan Slott, the writer of the Spider-Man comics, has voiced his approval for Zendaya’s reported casting.
Spider-Man: Homecoming is set to hit theaters next summer.
