Jesse Helt, the young man who accepted Miley Cyrus’s award for Best Video at this year’s MTV VMAs on behalf of homeless youth in Hollywood, has turned himself into the police.

E! News, Helt (22) opted to cooperate with officials after news broke that he had a warrant out for his arrest in his hometown of Salem, Oregon.

As previously reported, the warrant was issued after Helt allegedly violated his probation, which stemmed from being charged with criminal trespassing and criminal mischief in 2011.

Meanwhile, USA Today reports that Jesse’s bail was set at $25,000, but he was released when he was able to put up 10 percent of the money ($2500). He will appear in court in about two weeks.

Helt apparently moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in modeling before falling on hard times. After meeting Miley Cyrus at the charity My Friend’s Place, she asked him to accept her award at the VMAs on behalf of “the 1.6 million million runaways and homeless youth” in Hollywood.

“I have survived in shelters all over this city…Though I may have been invisible to you on the streets I have a lot of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight,” Helt told the crowd while on stage Sunday night.

Cyrus, meanwhile, has come to the aid of her friend, slamming the media for focusing on Helt’s legal record instead of the homeless youth in Hollywood and the rest of the United States.
