The 2014 MTV Video Music Awards took place last night, and though the events were surprisingly tame compared to last year, there were still many memorable moments that took place both on and off stage!

In honor of one of music’s most epic nights, here’s our list of the 5 Biggest Moments from the VMAs!

1.  Nicki Minaj Has Minor Wardrobe Malfunction

Leave it to Nicki Minaj to even make a mistake look good!

The rapper helped open the show with a performance of her new song “Anaconda,” which transitioned into a collaboration with Ariana Grande and Jessie J, but there was clearly a quick change flub between the songs.

When Nicki returned on stage for her verse on “Bang Bang,” she was forced to hold her little black dress closed then entire time. Luckily, Minaj was able to make up for the error, later taking the stage with Usher for a rendition of his song “She Came To Give It To You” in a fully functional outfit.

2.  Common Pays Respects To Ferguson

Early in the night, Common hit the stage to present the award for Best Hip Hop Video, but before he began, he had some very important words for the audience.

The rapper touched on what has been happening in Ferguson and paid his respects to the family of Michael Brown by asking for a moment of silence.

Common then accepted the Moon Man on behalf of Drake, who won for his song “Hold On, We’re Going Home,” and encouraged everyone to “Spread love.”

3.  Fifth Harmony Wins Artist To Watch

Fifth Harmony had a huge night at this year’s VMAs! The girl group helped conclude the festivities on the red carpet with an awesome performance on their new song “Bo$$.” Later that evening, the ladies won the award for Artist To Watch for “Miss Movin’ On,” beating out 5 Seconds of Summer, Charlie XCX, Schoolboy Q and Sam Smith.

“…thank you so much to our fans, the Harmonizers,” Ally said on stage. “You guys go above and beyond for us. You guys changed our lives!”

4.  Miley Cyrus Dedicated ‘Best Video’ Win To Homeless Youth In L.A.

Miley Cyrus made headlines at this year’s VMAs for a much different reason than in 2013.

After winning Best Video for “Wrecking Ball,” Cyrus sent up a young man named Jesse to accept her award on behalf of the thousands of homeless youth in Los Angeles – himself included.

As the singer tearfully looked on, Jesse encouraged viewers and audience members to visit Miley’s Facebook page and contribute to the organization My Friend’s Place – a homeless shelter for young people in Hollywood.

5.  Beyonce And Jay Z Silence The Haters

Saving the best for last, Beyonce closed out the VMAs with a nearly 20-minute long performance which featured a medley of songs from her 2013 self-titled album.

After she was through, ‘surprise presenters’ Jay Z and their adorable daughter Blue Ivy took the stage together to present Bey with the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard Award.

Mrs. Carter then got emotional, tearing up while she thanked her daughter and her “beloved,” and seemingly silencing those divorce rumors for good.
