Adam Levine makes his big screen debut in the new film Begin Again as an up-and-coming singer who is thrust into the spotlight after he lands a deal with a major label.
And though ‘Dave’ is suddenly making a ton of money with his new venture, the same can’t really be said for his real-life counterpart.
During a recent interview with USA Today, Levine revealed that he wasn’t paid a dime to appear in the film, which also stars Keira Knightly and Mark Ruffalo.
“I did this movie for no money. I’m very lucky that I’m in that position,” Levine said. “I want to have good experiences. I don’t want to do a bunch of (expletive) that I hate. I want to treat [acting] completely differently because I have the very fortunate luxury of not having to think of this in terms of money.”
Through his other creative outlets, which include fronting the world-famous band Maroon 5 as well as appearing as a coach on The Voice, Levine is able to support himself while he explores new territories. And while the 35-year-old superstar knows he’s lucky, he’s also not afraid to brag a bit.
“I’m so happy that I get to have this life. It’s funny because no one knows how good my life is as well as I do,” Levin told USA Today.
Knightly, who plays his on-screen girlfriend Gretta, also echoed Levine’s sentiments about his lifestyle and personality, noting, “He gets to choose to do whatever he wants to do, which is a lovely position to be in. He is that confident. Can they bottle it?”
Begin Again is now in select theaters.
