M-1 Rail Gets Approval In Downtown Detroit

Well good news – it’s finally going to happen in Downtown Detroit! Construction is set to begin on the new M-1 Rail in July, with a completion date set sometime in late 2016.

The cars will hold up to 100 passengers and some will run on wires and others powered by lithium battery.

Check out the video of what it could look like in downtown in just a few years.

According to M-1Rail.com:

The 3.3-mile streetcar route will include 20 stations serving 12 locations and connect riders to key destinations along Woodward Avenue. The streetcar will serve curb-side stations for nearly the entire length of the route, transitioning to center-running at the north and south ends of the system.
