By now, you’ve probably seen the Kimye wedding photo that pretty much broke the internet when the couple released it several days after saying ‘I Do.’

And though many people assumed that the famous duo waited to reveal the picture for dramatic effect, Kanye West apparently blames famous photographer Annie Leibovitz for the delay.

According to The New York Post‘s Page Six, the 37-year-old rapper went off on one of his trademark tangents about the situation during a panel session at the Cannes Lions International Festival of Creativity on Monday.

West claims that he and wife Kim Kardashian hired Leibovitz, who shot their now-famous Vogue cover, to photograph their big day, but she canceled at the last minute.

“Let me tell you something about that kiss photo that my girl put up … this was pissing my girl off during the honeymoon, she was exhausted because we worked on the photo so much because Annie Leibovitz pulled out right before the wedding,” Kanye said. “I think that she was, like, scared of the idea of celebrity.”

Instead, West says that he decided to take time out of his honeymoon in Ireland to edit the photo himself, and it took several days after he ran into trouble with the coloring of their wall of roses.

“Because Annie pulled out, I was like, ‘Okay, I still want my wedding photos to look like Annie Leibovitz,’ and we sat there and worked on that photo for, like, four days because the flowers were off-color,” West told the crowd.

Yeezus also goes on to note that it was crucial to get the photo just right because of “how important Kim is to the internet,” explaining, “the fact the No. 1 most-liked photo [on Instagram] has a kind of aesthetic was a win for what the mission is, which is raising the palette.”

Currently, the Kimye wedding photo, which features them sharing their first kiss as husband and wife, has a whopping 2.29 million ‘Likes’ on Instagram, making it the most popular photo ever to be posted on the site.
