Roxanne’s Recap: Amp Live 2014!
I knew that Amp Live 2014 was going to be a special night. From the artists we had at the show to YOU – the amazing fans that come out to have a good time. Special only begins to say how AMAZING it really was.
I got there right at 5pm and there was already was a huge crowd lined up ready to get in! Some girls had been waiting since 7am!! I was able to mingle with the crowd a little bit outside before I was needed back stage to interview Timeflies! It’s so funny because as a DJ, not everybody knows what I look like. So I just kind of went around and introduced myself to people! Always a fun moment when they go, ” Omg your Roxanne!”
I was so happy to be the one interviewing Timeflies because I really dig these guys! They have been working hard since we had them last year at Amp Live! Rob and Cal shared with me that they will be performing on Good Morning America 6/23 as part of the “Summer Concert Series” so be sure to watch! Check out my interview HERE!
So after the interview I had to rush out to the crowd. The gates were open and we still one chance left for you to win meet & greets! Listeners had to find all of us DJs placed around Meadow Brook, take a picture with the sign we were holding and then tweet it to AMP. It was crazy!! Girls running looking for Austin M&G or Little Mix. It’s such an exciting way to see how BAD these fans want to meet their favorites!!
Next. it was showtime!!! I ran back stage and we were all excited to get this party started!! Right as I was heading out to the stage, I see Perrie from Little Mix in the hall. I say hello and in her lovely British accent she smiles brightly and says hi back! Then the most random thing happened. I ran into two old friends in the business who I hadn’t seen in awhile, so that was awesome!! Turns out, they work with Austin Mahone, so naturally I’m like “Bring me to him!!” And boom – there it is!
Austin was such a doll! I congratulated him on his success for “MMM Yeah,” which is Austin’s big breakout song that’s getting him radio airplay everywhere! After that, Austin went to sit down and talk to The Coop Show. During that Ed Sheeran comes walking up and crashes the interview!
Before they rushed Ed off, I saw my chance to get a picture! The Ed Sheeran M&G had already happened which I missed. I casually went up to Ed and introduced myself. I melted as soon as he started talking and that smile… so genuine! I expressed my love for him and how much his music matters. He writes songs that mean something and I appreciate that as a music fan! My picture isn’t the greatest ( which is why I’m not sharing) but who cares!! I still had this amazing moment! Hoping I can try for another picture when Ed Sheeran comes back in September!
I was so busy working and talking that I was ready to kick back and watch the show!! My girls Leah and Julia from Amp Radio, the voices behind the Detroit #Selfie song, took the stage and they were fricken awesome!!!
This picture took place before their big moment! I love these girls. You may have met them at an Amp event or maybe you will soon!
And then the moment I was really looking forward to. I’ve never seen Ed Sheeran in concert and I was pumped! He came out with his guitar and was flawless… No band, just Ed and his guitar! I knew he was going to be amazing but actually seeing and hearing him be amazing was waaaaaaay better! He does it all! Rock and blues songs, pop songs, slow songs, raps. He’s not a dancer nor does he need to be. Like Ed said last night, “I’m an entertainer here to entertain you” and that he did! LOVED it and can’t wait to see him at The Palace!
Next up AUSTIN MAHONE baby! I knew it was going to be loud and it was!! Screams were heard all over Rochester Hills I’m sure!
As we were waiting for Austin I went up to his back -up dancers and started up a conversation. I’ve seen Austin perform on TV and his back-up dancers are insane! I was happy to be able to tell the boys how awesome they are and to kill out there for Detroit tonight!! I would of taken a picture but by this point my phone was dead!!
Austin definitely brought the energy! That was my first time seeing him live and he didn’t disappoint! The girls were dying!!! He danced and sang and teased the crowd lifting his shirt showing off his toned body…. I really loved when he slowed it down and sang John Legend’s “All of Me.” I loved his entire show and like all girls wanted it to be longer! Next time!
In between all of the performances, DJ Ryan Richards was mixing live keeping the crowd jumping! We were all backstage waiting for Little Mix just watching the crowd have a good time. Everybody was dancing and taking selfies. That truly is the best feeling as a DJ. You come to work everyday and work really hard to generate listeners and fans so you can keep having a job, and overall be a successful radio station. We are still the New 987 Amp Radio and thanks to you, we’re getting more popular everyday! Last night, you showed us that you love us and I hope you know that we LOVE you back!
Now it was time for LITTLE MIX!! I did get to meet all the girls and they were so sweet and gorgeous!!
I was so excited that I got to be the DJ to have a mic to introduce the girls. I actually asked to do it because I’m that big of a fan!!! It’s a Mixer thing…. These girls don’t mess around! They came out with their girl power and SLAYED!!! Fierce, funky and on fire!! The sounded perfect and it was the best way to end the greatest day ever!!
We also got to make the big announcement too that Little Mix is coming back! Sept. 28th to the Filmore! Tickets on sale June 20th.
Thank you AMPERS for coming out!! We can’t wait to do it all again!
