It looks like live-action Disney films are Hollywood’s latest trend!

Hot on the heels of the epic success of the ‘Sleepy Beauty’ adaptation Maleficent, which is currently No. 1 at the box office, it’s been revealed that a new ‘Beauty and the Beast’ movie is in the works.

According to Variety, the film will be directed by Bill Condon (The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn, Dreamgirls) and the script is being penned by Evan Spiliotopoulos. Meanwhile, Mandeville Films is set to produce the project.

Over the past few years, several Disney classics have been reimagined for the silver screen, including Alice in Wonderland and two ‘Snow White’-inspired movies (Mirror Mirror, Snow White and the Huntsman). Additionally, live-adaptations of The Jungle Book and Cinderella are currently in the works.

According to People, Maleficent, which stars Angelina Jolie, raked in a whopping $70 million in the U.S. in its first weekend alone, so we’re assuming those working on the Beauty and the Beast project are hoping for the same success!

As of now, no casting decisions or release dates have been announced.
