The weather this weekend…perfect! There is nothing better than a BBQ with some friends when the weather cooperates the way it did this past weekend…
I went to my friends’ on Sunday for a delicious BBQ meal but of course I could not show up empty handed. Whenever I ask what I can bring, I’m always told…”YOUR GUACAMOLE!!!” It’s so simple to make, and sure to please everyone at the BBQ (assuming they are guac fans lol).
I’ve seen a lot of people use those guacamole flavor packets, and that’s fine if you like that, but trust me…there’s a more delicious and natural option. Check out my recipe below:
2 ripe avocados
1 bunch freshly chopped cilantro
1/2 diced red onion
1 large diced tomato
1 table spoon finely chopped garlic
2 finely chopped fresh jalapenos
lemon juice to taste
The most important part of this recipe or any other guacamole recipe is to make sure the avocados you are using are perfectly ripe. These guys can be super touchy and if you don’t use them at exactly the right time your dip will turn out either too muchy is they are over ripe or stringy and off in flavor if not ripe enough. Below are a few tips as to how you can determine if an avocado is ripe:
How To Tell When An Avocado is Ripe
1. When you hold the avocado, it should feel heavy for its size and have no mushy spots.
2. If you need avocados to use right away, look for fruit whose skin has turned dark green or black. The avocado should yield to gentle pressure from a thumb.
3. Gently press on the bottom with your finger; ripe avocados will feel slightly soft.
