Shakira Accused of Lifting Concept of ‘La La La’ Video

Did Shakira lift the premise for her just-released music video for “La La La (Brazil 2014)” from another? That’s what the artist behind the latter video is asserting.

Woodkid, real name Yoann Lemoine, a French director and singer-songwriter, released the video for “Iron” in March 2011, since racking up 27 million hits on YouTube. According to Lemoine, Shakira’s new music video is a bit of a ripoff of “Iron” — and he has the stills and comparisons to make his point.

On his Facebook page yesterday (May 22), Woodkid posted Shakira’s video, the comments section erupting in defense of his original content. He also posted still comparisons of different shots of both videos, with certain poses and shots looking highly similar to the predecessor or successor.

Shakira’s video, which comes three years later, is a partnership with Activia preceding the FIFA World Cup, which takes place starting next month.
