The Movement Electronic Music Festival in Detroit is THIS WEEKEND and our very own DJ Ryan Richards has been hosting a series of special guest DJ sets on each Friday night leading up to the big event!
For this weekend’s installment, you can hear an hour-long set from Golf Clap tonight at 2am, followed by a set from J Phlip at 3am.
Hugh Cleal and Bryan Jones teamed up to form Golf Clap in 2013, and the Detroit-based duo is already making a name for themselves in the EDM community, playing over 150 shows last year alone.
Defining themselves as “Peak-Hour Deep House” music, Golf Clap secured spots at both Movement and Electric Forest this year, and were also recently voted ‘Best Electronic Artist’ by readers of Real Detroit Weekly.
The duo is also well on their way into launching their new label Country Club Disco, while they continue to make waves in the music industry through high-energy performances and fresh approach to the electronic genre.
J. Phlip has been in the EDM game for several years, getting her start at just 19 years old after she was gifted with her first DJ rig. At the time, Phlip was known as ‘Jessica Phillipe’ and living in her hometown of Champaign, Illinois. Her proximity to Chicago and its world-renowned house music scene helped mold her sound and style, though she also began to incorporate genres such as techno, booty bass and tech house into her music.
Fast-forward to 2008 and J. Phlip signed on to become a member of the highly-esteemed Dirtybird crew and quickly earned the title of Claude VonStroke’s favorite support DJ.
Currently, J. Phlip is living in San Francisco, where she has established herself as a DJ/producer and taken up residency at the infamous Endup nightclub.
While J. Phlip is a former Movement artist, Golf Clap will be making their first appearance at the festival on Sunday (May 25) on the Made in Detroit stage at 2pm.
So listen tonight to hear DJ Ryan Richards spin special DJ guest sets from Golf Clap (2am-3am) and J. Phlip (3am-4am) only on 98-7 AMP Radio.
The Movement Electronic Music Festival is set for Memorial Day Weekend (May 24 – 26) at Hart Plaza in Detroit!
