The Detroit Zoo does this amazing event every year where they team up with and Michigan Humane Society, in collaboration with more than 20 local animal welfare organizations called Meet Your Best Friend at the Zoo. And…it’s exactly what it sounds like! Hundreds of dogs, cats, puppies and kittens are available for immediate adoption to loving homes. It happens to be one of the nation’s largest off-site companion animal adoption events.
I like to go every year just to look around but this year was different…I walked up to the Midwest Small Breed Rescue area and almost instantly fell in love with a 6-½ year old Chihuahua! I would like to formally introduce you to my brand new son Pedro the Mexican wonder! The reason I was so impressed with Midwest Small Breed Rescue in particular was, it’s a non-profit volunteer-based rescue. They do not have a shelter. All of their dogs are housed in experienced foster homes where they receive love and care until they find that special home to call their own.
Thanks to Midwest Small Breed Rescue, my new baby Pedro was nursed back to health after being cruely treated. The people who had Pedro prior to MSBR getting a hold of him did some terrible things to him including starving him. Thanks to wonderful foster homes and loving people like one of their volunteers Marina, Pedro is happy, healthy and more loving than ever. If you are considering getting a new puppy, especially a small one, I highly recommend Midwest Small Breed Rescue. You can see some of their available doggies by clicking HERE.
