Rihanna Accused of Cyber Bullying Teen Over Homemade ‘Prom Bat’ Outfit
Do you remember that Alexandre Vauthier bat inspired green jumpsuit that Rihanna wore to the 2010 Echo Awards?!
Well a 16-year-old fan sure did and wanted to honor her favorite singer by recreating the outfit for her Hollywood-themed prom. The student’s name is Alexis Carter and she spoke to her local Fox TV station about being the outfit!
“I was like, ‘Oh my God, I love this outfit. I wanna go with this outfit. Let me go show my mom!’ And I was like, ‘Mom, mom, mom, I wanna wear this, it’s cool, I love it, oh my god.”
A family friend then reportedly designed the ensemble for Alexis. The dark green outfit featured a plunging neckline and “wing-like” attachments under the arms just like Rihanna’s. Alexis shared that her prom night was perfect!
“Everybody was saying, ‘Oh my god, I love it, it looks nice your body looks good it’s different.” The next day when pictures of the outfit began to spread on social media. The hashtag #PromBat began to trend on Twitter complete with altered photographs, mocking the young girl’s outfit.
What was hurtful to Alexis was a tweet she got from her now former idol, Rihanna, who posted a picture of herself wearing the original dress (with caption “IG”) alongside a photo of Alexis in her dress (with caption “Real Life”) and a sad face. In another tweet, Rihanna posted a photo of the teen alongside the bat-like logo of the Wu-Tang clan.
“I was very offended,” Alexis said of Rihanna’s tweets. “Why throw shade on it when you had on the exact same thing. The poses was different but the outfit wasn’t.”
Here’s what Alexis Carter walked away with knowing: “She doesn’t love her fans like she says she does.”
So what do you think of this? Did Rihanna take it too far? Should she apologize? Sound off below!
