Being the sister of Solange and wife of Jay Z, Beyoncé has been at the center of a lot of drama since security camera footage of the two in-laws’ altercation in the elevator of a Met Gala after party leaked to TMZ this week.
Now, the 32-year-old pop star has broken her silence on the matter.
In a statement released today (May 15) to The Associated Press, Beyoncé said:
“As a result of the public release of the elevator security footage from Monday, May 5th, there has been a great deal of speculation about what triggered the unfortunate incident. But the most important thing is that our family has worked through it.”
“Jay and Solange each assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred,” Beyonce continued. “They both acknowledge their role in this private matter that has played out in the public. They both have apologized to each other and we have moved forward as a united family.”
“The reports of Solange being intoxicated or displaying erratic behavior throughout that evening are simply false,” the statement concludes. “At the end of the day families have problems and we’re no different. We love each other and above all we are family. We’ve put this behind us and hope everyone else will do the same.”
The statement comes the day after The Standard Hotel’s announcement that they had fired the employee responsible to leaking the footage, saying they were “shocked and disappointed” by the breach.
Meanwhile, rumors continue to surface about the cause of the fight, including reports that Solange’s outburst stemmed from a situation in which Jay Z was allegedly flirting with designer Rachel Roy. Others speculate that tension started to rise between the two when Solange discovered Jay was planning to go to Rihanna’s after party without Beyoncé, which caused them to exchange words leading up to the debacle.
