Demi Lovato Talks About Bipolar Disorder: ‘It’s A Daily Thing’
Wow, I had no idea that Demi Lovato suffers from bipolar disorder. My older sister is bipolar, so I have a lot of personal experience with the mental illness. As a matter of fact my sister, who lives in California, called me over the weekend and wasn’t making any sense. She’s off her meds and it’s not pretty. Of course I advised her to get back on medication and to try to relax….
The gorgeous and talented Demi Lovato covers the summer issue of Cosmopolitan for Latinas, where she opens up about living with her mental illness and her past problems with drugs and alcohol. This young star continues to inspire the world! Her journey to strong and confident artist was a long bumpy road..
“When I was younger, I needed someone in the spotlight to idolize, who stood for positivity and light and happiness, and wanted to change the world,” Lovato tells Cosmo. “And because I didn’t have that, I realized I want to do that, if only for my 12-year-old little sister.”
On dealing with her bipolar disorder:
“It’s a daily thing. I treat it with medication. Not everybody does that, but for me it works. That’s what works for me — medicating, checking in with people, being honest, and being grateful for things.”
She also opened up about her career and goals she hopes to achieve:
“I’m very proud of how far I’ve come, but I definitely want to win a Grammy one day, and I dream of winning an Oscar. I want to continue to tour and build my fan base and make music that will last for decades.”
