As many have already predicted, this year will be Craig Ferguson’s last as host of The Late Late Show on CBS.

The 51-year-old Scottish comedian announced yesterday (April 28) that his decade long run will come to a close when his contract expires in December, explaining in an appropriately funny statement, “CBS and I are not getting divorced, we are ‘consciously uncoupling,’ but we will still spend holidays together and share custody of the fake horse and robot skeleton, both of whom we love very much.”

Unique in his approach to late night television, Ferguson has become known for his off-the-cuff interviews and wacky sense of humor which have landed him nominations at both the Emmy and Peabody Awards.

His retirement marks the second among CBS’s hosts this year, with David Letterman handing off his Late Show duties to Stephen Colbert in 2015.

A replacement has not yet been named for Ferguson, though many have speculated that Chelsea Handler could potentially fill the spot, especially after she posted a recent Instagram photo that showed her holding a CBS pamphlet and featured the caption, “Business meeting.”

While CBS has since stated that Handler was simply meeting with the “syndication [division],” the actress/comedian has already announced that she will not be returning to host Chelsea Lately on the E! network next year. Handler’s brash and sarcastic form of comedy and her banter-filled interviews might be an excellent fit for the Late Late Show, though according to her manager, she is currently weighing her options on multiple projects.

Do you think Chelsea Handler should take over for Craig Ferguson on The Late Late Show? Or would someone else be a better fit? Sound off below!
