Amanda Bynes’ Rep Denies Actress Is Schizophrenic

Since completing her six-month stay in a court-order rehab program in December, Amanda Bynes has pretty much steered clear of the spotlight, opting instead to enroll as a student at California’s Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in the hopes of starting her own clothing line.

While many have speculated that her series of odd incidents last year stemmed from drug use, schizophrenia and bipolar disorder, a rep for the 28-year-old actress recently addressed the situation for the first time, and seemingly denied all three allegations.

In a statement to People, attorney Tamar Arminak explains that Bynes has “stayed silent because she believed it was best to keep her mental health diagnosis private,” but now wants to “dispel certain rumors.”

“For the record, Amanda does not have schizophrenia, nor has she ever been diagnosed with it,” Arminak tells People. “Amanda currently is on zero medication. She’s devoted to living her life as healthy as possible. She’s never had a history of abusing alcohol or hard drugs, and she’s proud to say she’s been marijuana-free for the past nine months.”

Meanwhile, a second source suggests that Bynes is suffering from some sort of mental health disorder, though an official diagnosis remains unknown.

“She continues to undergo outpatient therapy several times a week,” the ‘family source’ tells People. “She’s still working through the causes of her past bizarre behavior.”

If Bynes’s activity on Twitter is any indication, she seems to be doing quite well. The Hairspray star recently took some time off to celebrate her birthday and spring break with a trip to Cabo with her parents, and posted a few photos from the vacation in which she looked happy and relaxed.

“Thank you everyone for all the birthday wishes,” Bynes wrote on April 5.

As of now, Bynes remains under the legal guardianship of her mother Lynn and Arminak told US Weekly back in December that Amanda is “very happy to reestablish the loving relationship with her family that she once shared.”

We hope that Amanda Bynes continues to make progress in her treatment and that we might see her back on the big screen soon!
