Rob Lowe Says Most Of Justin Bieber’s Fans Don’t Care About His Music
Rob Lowe says that he identifies with Justin Bieber and that he knows his “dark secret.”
The 50-year-old actor, who shot to fame as a teen idol in the ‘80s in movies such as The Outsiders, St. Elmo’s Fire and About Last Night, was recently interviewed by Oprah and revealed that he understands the pressures that Bieber is currently going through.
And while Lowe says he has “tremendous empathy” for the 20-year-old singer, he does make a few assumptions about the pop star’s fans.
“He makes really good music, he does, but I think he knows the dark secret, and the dark secret is 80 percent of his audience doesn’t give a s**t about the music. And he knows it. It bums him out,” Lowe tells Oprah. “They care about lemming-think, and their girlfriends and who’s oohing and aahing… It has nothing to do with what he’s doing as an artist. He is the guy who is standing in front at a moment that they’re going through a developmental thing. It’s natural, it’s all great, but if it wasn’t him, it would be somebody else, like it was me.”
Lowe also states that he wrote a little bit about Justin Bieber in his new book Love Life, and though he doesn’t explain the details, it seems as if it has something to do with being a former teen heartthrob.
