Is this the end for Nickelodeon’s Sam & Cat?

The New York Daily News is reporting that production has come to a stand-still on the hit show and there’s a chance it won’t be renewed for a second season.

Rumor has it that the reason the otherwise successful series could come to a premature close is mostly due to an alleged feud between co-stars Jennette McCurdy and Ariana Grande and a separate issue between McCurdy and Nickelodeon.

As we previously reported, a few eyebrows were raised when racy photos of 21-year-old McCurdy hit the internet last month. At the time, many pointed the finger at Detroit Pistons star Andre Drummond for leaking the pictures, as McCurdy had recently ended a short fling with the basketball player. Drummond, for his part, denied the claims.

Deadline.com notes that when the former iCarly star was noticeably absent from this year’s Kids Choice Awards where Sam & Cat won the award for ‘Favorite TV Show,’ she took to Twitter to call out Nickelodeon, leading many to speculate the network had taken issue with her photo scandal.

“I was put in an uncomfortable, compromising, unfair situation (many of you have guessed what it is) and I had to look out for me,” McCurdy wrote. “I chose to not go because sticking up for what is right and what is fair is what my mom taught me is ALWAYS the most important thing. I want to thank those of you who have reached out with kind words of support, McCurdians and Arianators alike. No matter who or what you support, I believe in supporting fairness first. If you have done that, thank you.”

However, the young actress later clarified that “unfair situation” had “nothing to do with the pics leaked” but instead, stemmed from poor treatment from the network.

Meanwhile, Nickelodeon has released a statement about the Sam & Cat hiatus that alleges that the cast and crew are simply tired after a long, 40-episode first season, also specifying, “The photos caused no issues between McCurdy and the network, and we have the utmost respect for her” (via NY Daily News).
