Lorde Calls Out Photo Retouching: ‘Flaws Are Ok’

At just 17-years-old, Ella Yelich-O’Connor (aka Lorde) has already released a hit album, won herself two GRAMMY Awards and found a place in pop culture that is far different than most of her musical counterparts.

She is outspoken, opinionated and unafraid to be herself, and while her blatant honesty has (of course) drawn criticisms from some, others point to the singer has being a great role model for young girls.

Most recently, the “Team” singer took to Twitter to call out the practice of photo retouching, and to remind her fans that it’s okay to have flaws:

Creating a compilation of two different photos of herself that were clearly taken on the same day, Lorde points out that one of the pictures shows her with perfectly smooth skin, while is a far truer depiction of her actual complexion.

It’s rare that anyone, let alone a teenage girl, would be so willing to reveal their own flaws, physical or otherwise, but Lorde’s photos work as a reminder that no one – not even a celebrity – is perfect.

But this isn’t the first time the New Zealand native has made a bold move regarding her appearance. Back in February, the singer released a makeup–free selfie to her official Instagram page, writing, “in bed in paris with my acne cream on.”
