The Palace was packed last night for Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights Tour. I’ve never seen Demi in concert before so I was very excited to be there! Opening up for Demi was Fifth Harmony (who we had at our Kringle Jingle last year) and Little Mix. In between the acts was magician Collin Keys, the teenager from America’s Got Talent. The show from start to finish was jam packed!
Collin Keys got the crowd hyped up doing his magic! I loved how he got the crowd involved bringing up different fans on stage and blowing all of our minds. He shot a video of the crowd and it should be up on his YouTube channel soon. One of the girls he pulled up on stage was a huge AMP listener Maria. He did this trick where he put her cell phone in a brown paper bag and then mixed it around with other bags. He went on to smash each bag with a hammer. Maria was freaking out!! She had just met Little Mix so I knew she had pictures and videos on her phone that she wasn’t trying to lose!!! In the end, he smashed all the right bags and Maria got her phone back!
Fifth Harmony was the first to perform and the girls were fierce! They looked and sounded amazing! Their set wasn’t that long (maybe 10 to 15 minutes) but long enough to make every Fifth Harmony fan feel like they hit the lottery. Just like when we had them at Kringle Jingle, they gave it their all with a lot of girl power and fans sang along to every song.
I was pretty blown away from Little Mix. I’ve never seen them in concert either. I know about the girls and their story of being on X Factor and Perrie being engaged to Zayn from One Direction and etc. I also know that Little Mix is huge in other countries, but haven’t reached that level here in the US. It’s only a matter of time. They put on a fantastic show! The came out strong with ‘Salute,’ the title track off their latest album, and were just so fun on stage!! I was impressed with their vocals and always appreciate it when artist can actually sing! They had four really hot back-up dancers too, so that didn’t hurt! I’m a bigger Little Mix fan after seeing them live and can’t wait to see them again!
Now time for the girl of the night! Demi Lovato came out belting her hit song “Heart Attack“! Her hair was her best accessory! Half shaved & dyed vibrant pink she looked gorgeous! She had on this Janet Jackson Rhythm Nation looking outfit – all blinged out – that I loved! For someone who wasn’t feeling well, she definitely didn’t show it as she danced and smiled on stage and rocked hard! I’ve seen her perform on TV but in person she sounded even better! Her voiced really soared, and I would put her at the level of Pink or Kelly Clarkson. She doesn’t get that kind of credit for being that amazing vocally, but I think she’s that good!
There were so many things I loved about her performance. For one, she didn’t change outfits at all until the end when she came out and sang “Skyscraper.” No silly stage props, just Demi and her band with the screen behind her and cool light effects. Demi made you feel like you were at her house having a party with her listening to music, with a playlist consisting of her songs of course!
She was so personable with the crowd, genuine and inspiring. She said her favorite part of the show was when she gets to slow it down and just talk to the crowd. That was my favorite part, too. Her words honestly brought me to tears. She talked about her own struggles and told the audience that if they are being bullied, have an eating disorder, are using drugs or are self harming, how they can get help. She even addressed the parents about how you have to help your child if they are suffering. I love how she said if you feel like you have no friends or feel like you have no one remember you, always have me.
I saw young girls just bawling and embracing her words that I’m sure they will carry with them for years to come. Demi made her fans feel like they can do anything and she made her fans feel loved! She sang so many songs I love, including “Remember December,” “Warrior” and “Let It Go!” She shared with us how she went to the movies to see Frozen (twice!) and how she recorded the end credits when her song came on!
I could go on and on about her show so to sum it up, Demi Lovato is incredible inside and out, and a true gift to us music fans!
