When you’re a celebrity, everything you say and everything you do is immediately put under a microscope, particularly on social media.
So when Gwen Stefani took to Twitter on Sunday to post a seemingly innocent throwback photo, the situation quickly took a turn for the worse.
The tweet in question shows Gwen roughly 30 years ago getting an autograph from classic rocker Sting and features the caption “chunky me 1983.”
As a result, the singer has been blasted by some publications for “body-shaming” her 14-year-old self.
“If Stefani—indisputable rock star who was once voted as having the ‘most inspirational mid-riff,’ accomplished business woman, and mother of two gorgeous boys with one on the way—is still cringing over her perceived baby fat from when she was 14, well, that bums us out,” writes Yahoo!
Meanwhile, fans have also taken issue with Stefani’s comments, with many stating that calling herself “chunky” sends the wrong message to the singer’s admirers:
Stefani, 44, is currently pregnant with her third son with husband Gavin Rossdale.
What do you think? Are people being too sensitive about a seemingly innocent comment? Or should Gwen Stefani be more careful about what she puts on Twitter? Sound off in the comments section!
