Diehard Harry Potter fans may not love this recent revelation…

While speaking with actress Emma Watson during an interview for Wonderland magazine, JK Rowling admitted that the series’ leading lady, Hermione Granger, may have ended up with the wrong guy.

The full interview won’t be released until Thursday, though the Sunday Times has already published portions of Rowling’s words, which have since been picked up by The Guardian, CNN and by Harry Potter fan-sites across the internet.

“I wrote the Hermione/Ron relationship as a form of wish fulfillment,” Rowling explained to Watson, who portrayed Hermione in the movie franchise and is the guest-editor of Wonderland’s February issue. “That’s how it was conceived, really. For reasons that have very little to do with literature and far more to do with me clinging to the plot as I first imagined it, Hermione ended up with Ron.”

As though she can literally feel the outrage from fans of the Hermione/Ron romance, Rowling then continues, “I know, I’m sorry, I can hear the rage and fury it might cause some fans, but if I’m absolutely honest, distance has given me perspective on that. It was a choice I made for very personal reasons, not for reasons of credibility.”

“Am I breaking people’s hearts by saying this? I hope not,” Rowling muses.

Meanwhile, Watson empathizes with the author’s words, stating, “I think there are fans out there who know that too and who wonder whether Ron would have really been able to make her happy.”

Rowling then suggests that if the fictional couple were going to make it work, they probably would’ve had to turn to “marriage counseling” for some help.

What do you think about this recent Harry Potter revelation from JK Rowling? Do you agree that Hermione should’ve ended up with Harry? And finally, do they even have marriage counseling in the wizarding world?
