I made a prediction over the radio last week that Macklemore & Ryan Lewis would sweep the Grammys! I wasn’t too far off! They took home a few golden award last night. Take a look if you missed it!
* Best New Artist
* Best Rap Song for Thrift Shop
* Best Rap Performance for Thrift Shop
* Best Rap Album
So, after Macklemore & Ryan Lewis won the Grammy for Best Rap Album social media went crazy! The hip-hop community and rap fans worldwide felt that honor deserved to go to Kendrick Lamar. Even Macklemore himself texted Kendrick apologizing for winning and Tweeted it out to his fans!
My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album… I’m honored and completely blown… http://t.co/TOnjGU6aGi

“My text to Kendrick after the show. He deserved best rap album…I’m honored and completely blown away to win anything much less 4 Grammys. But in that category, he should have won IMO. And that’s taking nothing away from The Heist. Just giving GKMC it’s proper respect.. With that being said, thank you to the fans. You’re the reason we were on that stage tonight. And to play Same Love on that platform was a career highlight. The greatest honor of all. That’s what this is about. Progress and art. Thank you. #grammys”
I heard some chatter on the radio this morning, and saw all the tweets out there last night about Macklemore’s rap album win. To me it’s not that shocking. I kind of knew Macklemore would win just because these Grammy voters have no clue about “rap” music, if you know what I mean. Macklemore is the safe way to vote. It was a hugely successful album, however it didn’t really get a lot of play on rap and urban stations.
I see where the hip hop community has a point. I don’t think it’s a black or white thing. Eminem has won in the past and nobody was in a frenzy about that. I think it’s because Kendrick Lamar is so talented, and is the next big thing in hip hop. His album Good Kid, M.A.A.D City is incredible. Kendrick’s performance with Imagine Dragons last night was insane!! Kendrick owned it! If you missed it take a look!
So what do you think about this? Did Macklemore & Ryan Lewis deserve to win Best Rap Album for The Heist?
