Hear James Blake Remix Beyoncé’s ‘Drunk In Love’

By Shannon Carlin

With his remix of Beyoncé’s “Drunk In Love,” James Blake nearly removes any trace of Queen Bey from the track. A bold move to say the least.

Blake premiered his new version of the track off Bey’s self-titled visual album on BBC Radio 1 yesterday (Jan. 16), but it’s so unrecognizable that if he didn’t tell you what it was previously, you might not know on first listen, or even the fifteenth.

The Best New Artist GRAMMY nominee starts off with a sample that sounds a but like “Oh Yeah” (aka the Ferris Bueller song), then focuses on warping the vocals of the song’s bridge. Those high-pitched Middle Eastern chants on the original are now deep, static groans.
