This isn’t your typical unsigned artist covering a popular track to get noticed — It’s more than that. Over the weekend, I received an email from a 15-year-old in West Bloomfield named Olivia.

As I started to read, I became more and more interested. Olivia wasn’t out for fame, but to get her message out there with our help.

Read the full email below and check out her cover of the popular song from A Great Big World “Say Something.” All profits from the iTunes cover single will go to The Wounded Warrior Project to help veterans.

Hey 98.7!

My name is Olivia Cassar. I’m a 15 year old vocal artist from West Bloomfield, Michigan with extensive performance and recording experience. To tell you a little bit about myself, I love family. My family means the world to me and without them, I would’ve never built up the courage to become what I am today. The last thing I want to see is them hurt, so when I found out both of my brothers were joining the Marines, my heart dropped. Today, I have to amazing Marine brothers who inspire me to do what I love every single day when I wake up. I wanted to show my love for our military through the most powerful method I know, music, and by teaming up with the Wounded Warrior Project, I’m enabled to do so. I’ve covered “Say Something” by A Great Big World, which I’m sure you’ve heard of because its super popular at the moment. My music video for the cover is on YouTube and carries a meaningful concept. Friday, December 6th, my cover was released on iTunes for $0.99. My question for you guys at 98.7 is if you could possibly do anything to help me out by spreading my music to your listeners on air and increase awareness for our injured veterans.  Please contact me when you get a chance, I would really appreciate it!

P.S. I’m probably your guys’ biggest fan! Keep up the amazing work!

Much respect,

Olivia Cassar
