Bullying, calling people names, or making fun of the way someone looks is never cool. It’s NOT okay to do it towards everyday people, people you don’t know, or even celebrities. Now a days people, young and old, feel like they can say anything they want behind a keyboard to whoever they want.
Lorde and her boyfriend, James Lowe, are the latest to receive trash talk from internet trolls aka miserable people who have no life!
You might recall when Lorde had a few choice words for Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift’s style of music in a recent interview. Lorde wasn’t on some Twitter rampage attacking them, just giving her opinion of their style of music, which is nothing close to bullying. Then in another interview she was asked to choose between Justin Bieber or Harry Styles and her response was, “Yuck! They can have each other, I’ll book the honey moon!” Maybe those boys aren’t her style, but because of what she said, their fan-base has decided to take “revenge” in a nasty, childish way.
There are a particular group of teens that are obsessed with dissing Lorde and her new boyfriend Lowe, who happens to be Asian. Photos of the two embracing on the beach have been blasted with nasty comments, such as comparing Lowe to “Psy gone wrong” or “the captain of a chess club” and many things even worse than that! The list of and insults is long, click on any one of her photos on Instagram and you can see the hate.
Why do people care what her boyfriend looks like? What do people get out of making fun of someone’s ethnicity, let alone someone they do not even know? It’s very disturbing to see the younger generation so comfortable with lashing out at anyone they please while they site behind a keyboard. Words hurt and let’s not forget Lorde is a teen herself going through life while having to do so in the public eye.
Lorde is a refreshing sound for today’s pop music. She seems like a smart, independent girl, so she probably could care less as to what some angry girl has to say online anyways. Just remember, celebrity or not, ripping on someone for the way they look or insulting them for no reason is never acceptable. It’s immature and harmful and it makes you look bad.
