Pharrell Says He’s Going ‘Rap-Free’ For New Solo Album

Pharrell has been so busy with production and collaboration work these past few years that any plans for a new solo album were instantly placed on the back burner. However, the super-producer revealed in a recent interview with Complex that he has finally broke ground on the follow-up to his 2006 album, In My Mind.

Although the details surrounding the album are minimal, one facet that is sure to catch people’s attention is that the album will be done completely rap-free. Pharrell explained that although he retains a passion for spitting verses, time has changed him, particularly the aspects of marriage and fatherhood in his life now.

“No rapping. It’s focused,” he said. “That’s the difference between 30 and 40. ’Cause I was 30, now I’m 40—and I’m not rapping.”
