It’s not a bad life being One Direction. Their new album, Midnight Memories, debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with over 546,000 copies sold. But that’s not all. This marks the first time in U.S. chart history that a group has had their first three albums debut at No. 1.
One of the biggest records of the year, Midnight Memories fell short of besting just the top three sold albums of 2013, with Justin Timberlake, Eminem, and Drake leading the race. Timberlake’s The 20/20 Experience sold 968,000 back in March while Em’s The Marshall Mathers LP 2 sold 792,000 copies in its first week, according to Billboard. Drake comes in third with his Nothing Was the Same reaching 658,000 sold. One Direction comes in fourth place, right in front of Jay Z whose Magna Carta Holy Grail album sold 528,000 in July, according to Billboard.
