On Wednesday last week the Detroit Tigers traded their all-star first baseman Prince Fielder to the Texas Rangers for Ian Kinsler. Rumors had been swirling that something might happen this off-season after Prince had a less than stellar postseason.
Well, it came true on November 20th when Major League Baseball announced the trade and the Tigers confirmed. Fielder was set to make $24 million a year over the next 8 seasons. After the breakout season from pitcher Max Scherzer, the Tigers needed to free up some money.
More rumors came out about why the first baseman was traded. Some say poor postseason numbers over the last two years, others think it had to do with what Prince said after losing the ALCS to Boston. Regardless, the Tigers pick up a great second baseman in Kinsler and free up some money to hopefully resign Mad Max.
Another great thing that came out of this trade? A fan video on YouTube from ‘JustinVerlander35’ obviously not the real JV. Listen to how upset this Detroit fan is after hearing about the trade for the very first time.
