Angel Haze Speaks About Her ‘Same Love’ Freestyle

After a string of other hits and some viral success earlier in 2013, “Same Love” by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis made its second appearance in pop culture this fall, including a VMA win for Best Video With A Social Message. And now it’s gotten a brand new look, courtesy of Angel Haze.

The original track took some heat around the VMAs on Twitter from queer rapper Le1f, who took issue with a couple of straight dudes releasing a song about gay culture and acceptance, with the perception that they spoke on behalf of a community they don’t actually belong to. The Village Voice also posited that the song wasn’t doing much good to effect change in the hip hop community.

And that is why Angel Haze’s freestyle over the track is such a big deal: she’s a black female who identifies as pansexual.
