Jay-Z Reveals Nirvana Lyrics In New Song ‘Holy Grail’

Last week, Courtney Love announced that she had given rapper Jay-Z permission to use Nirvana lyrics written by her late husband, Kurt Cobain, for his upcoming new album, Magna Carta Holy Grail.

After releasing the album track list via a scavenger hunt in Brooklyn, the rapper has used a new Samsung Galaxy app to reveal the lyrics to new song “Holy Grail,” which features Justin Timberlake and contains the interpolation of Nirvana’s legendary 1991 hit, “Smells Like Teen Spirit.”

“And we all just / Entertainers / And we’re stupid / And contagious” is the song’s chorus, while a line in the first verse references the Nirvana frontman directly: “Nobody to blame / Kurt Cobain / I did it to myself.”

The new Jay-Z release (which will feature contributions from Rick Rubin, Pharrell Williams, Swizz Beatz and Timbaland) will debut on July 4 via the new app through an exclusive deal that will allow Galaxy users to access the album for free days ahead of the general public.
