People who love Facebook usually aren’t on Twitter and vice versa. With Twitter comes the insanely trendy hashtag used by everyone, but not necessarily liked by everyone. Twitter’s hashtag is also known as the most annoying and corporate feature.
If you’re strictly a Facebook user who isn’t familiar with the whole hashtag world it works like this. Twitter, Instagram, and Google+, users can add a # symbol (hashtag) before words and phrases. By doing so that word or phrase then turns into a link that leads to all other uses of that word or phrase. Hashtags, while a Twitter staple, are historically unpopular.
The Wall Street Journal reports that Facebook wants to start using these hashtags. Is this the right move? Do we really need more advertising on Facebook? How do you feel about hashtags in general?
