Taylor Swift has been turning heads with her new look. Last night she showed up to the 40 Principales Awards in Madrid, Spain, in a stunning, yet revealing, gown. We asked some fashion experts to weigh in on her grown up and fashion savvy new style.
“Taylor is 23 now, and for the past few years she’s dressed her age and played it safe with girly, feminine, sweet and almost predictable looks,” Teen Vogue Senior Fashion Market Editor Mary Kate Steinmiller said.
Mary Kate asserts that there is nothing wrong with Taylor’s evolution.
“She is growing up though and understandably so she wants her style to do the same,” Mary Kate added. “Her recent picks for the red carpet have been very modern. I’ve loved that she is embracing clean lines, plunging necklines, minimal styles and big name designers.”
MTV Style Senior Editor Mary H.K. Choi says Taylor’s transformation is “a breath of fresh air.”
“Personally, I love it. Taylor’s undeniably a beautiful girl who’s consistently well turned out either in breezy, playful dresses or elegant, Old Hollywood, floor-length glamour but this curve-ball is such a breath of fresh air,” she said.
While Mary argues it’s a more grown up look for the singer, no doubt sexy, Taylor manages to do it in a sophisticated manor.
“There’s true confidence in the peek-a-boo cutaway at the sternum and the thigh-grazing hem and three-quarter length sleeves lends an angular drama where we’ve typically seen a softened silhouette,” she said. “That she mirrored the paneling effect of her KAUFMANFRANCO dress with her Louboutins also scores major bonus points.”

Slowly becoming a fashion icon in her own right, Taylor embodies the white wash trend of 2013.
“Her recent all white picks for the People’s Choice Awards and 40 Principales Awards are on trend with Spring’s white wash on the runways,” Mary Kate added. “I think she is stepping out as a style star these days. I’d love to see her in Dior or a minimal Calvin Klein dress in the future.”
