As a Mom of two young daughters I’ve had a lot of proud moments. First time smiles, words, walking etc.. Yesterday though I had a very special proud moment with my oldest daughter Gillian, who’s 11, and I wanted to share it with you.
About 3 years ago my girlfriend cut off 14 inches of her hair and donated it to Locks of Love. Gillian became inspired to do the same thing. She’s been growing her hair super long ever since.
Back in November, we were attending the Justin Bieber concert at The Palace, and I had meet and greet passes for work so I took my her with me. My daughter and I ended up waited in line for over two hours. While waiting in line there was a little girl in front of us, around 7 years-old, who had bone cancer. She was very pale, thin and sick. I explained to my daughter, “she is a special child who will get your hair when you donate it.” That had a very big impact on Gillian, seeing first hand a cancer stricken child.
Yesterday was the big day and she finally donated her hair! Gillian looks amazing with her new short bob, and her smile is glowing because she knows that she did a very good thing. I’m so proud of her!
