One Direction Head To Head With Obama In Facebook Popularity

For some, 2012 will forever be remembered as one of boy band resurgence.

Today, Facebook released its Year in Review and revealed the 20 biggest moments of 2012 on the social network. One Direction follow Barack Obama and Mitt Romney in public figure mentions. While athletes Tim Tebow, Eli and Peyton Manning and Jeremy Lin also make the list, Madonna and Phillip Phillips rounded out the music mentions.

The trends of 2012 continue with the most popular songs, films, memes and more. PSY’s Gangnam Style made it into the top 5 Memes.

In addition to tracking the most popular stories and people of the year, Facebook comprised the same data for their 1 billion users. Users can view 2012 summarized in the form of photos, friends added and pages liked.
