R.I.P. Jenni Rivera
Why is it that when singers are peaking in their career they die…. and often in plane crashes. On Sunday Twitter was flooded with emotions when news traveled that Mexican singer Jenni Rivera, 43, died in a plane crash early Sunday morning in Mexico. You may have never heard of her before, but I invite you to learn more about this beautiful Latin singer.
Jenni Rivera was known for her big voice and flamboyant ways, she was passionate singer and actress adored by millions!! Besides dominating Billboard’s Latin Albums charts, Jenni had her own reality show “I Love Jenni” on bilingual cable network mun2, and just recently landed a deal to star in a comedy on ABC to be simply titled “Jenni.” She hosted a syndicated weekly radio program and had launched both clothing and cosmetics lines. Jenni was a coach on “The Voice Mexico” and was ready to crossover with her first feature film, Filly Brown which is scheduled to be released in 2013. Jenni was already generating Oscar buzz for her performance in Filly Brown. She had this to say in an earlier interview.
“I had to dig deep for the role,” Rivera said of her first try at acting. “I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised. If I can make Edward James Olmos cry, to me that means it was a success.” The film also stars Lou Diamond Phillips and newcomer Gina Rodriguez. In the movie Filly Brown, Rivera plays a drug-addicted mother who’s in prison.
My Mom who’s Italian is also fluent in Spanish, and growing up she always played Mexican music in our house. I never knew what they were saying, but I loved hearing the beautiful sounds of their voices. Jenni Rivera will truly be missed.
