HELP WANTED: Professional fart-smeller. Some alternative medicine experts believe that each person’s flatulence has particular nuances — bitter, savory, sweet, fishy — that can be used to detect diseases by a trained expert with a sharp sense of smell.
For example, an unusually meaty smell might be an indication of intestinal bleeding or tumors. The job reportedly pays about $50,000 a year, but the job requirements are strict. Only people from 18 to 45 years old can be accredited as fart-smellers.
They must also go through a training program and exam, be non-smokers who are alcohol- free, and be free of any nasal conditions or diseases.
