A high school principal in Arizona is under fire for forcing two students to hold hands for an hour as punishment for fighting in P.E. class. The school’s principal gave the boys a simple choice to either be suspended or face some public humiliation, and the students chose the embarrassment.
One student who witnessed the incident said, “Kids were laughing at them and calling them names asking, “Are you gay?”‘ In fact, one of the boys admitted to skipping school the next say to avoid being teased about it, but when asked what he learned from the episode he said, “Don’t fight in school.”
Some critics felt that the punishment encouraged bullying, and others thought it sent a bad message to gay students that two boys holding hands is shameful. What do you think?
