Every song performed at Friday’s NBC’s benefit concert for Superstorm Sandy victims had a message. The hourlong event hosted by Matt Lauer included a mix of music, storm footage and calls for donations from Jon Stewart, Tina Fey, Whoopi Goldberg and others.

Christina Aguilera performed “Beautiful”, Bon Jovi did “Livin’ on a Prayer” and Mary J. Blige cried as she sang “The Living Proof”. Jimmy Fallon had a bad microphone but did well as he led an all-star performance of the Drifters’ “Under the Boardwalk” that featured Joel, Bruce Springsteen and Steven Tyler.

NBCUniversal and the American Red Cross announced that their Hurricane Sandy benefit raised almost $23 million for victims of the storm that caused billions of dollars of damage and left more than 100 people dead. You can also help out the victims of Hurricane Sandy here.
