Tonight is the showdown in Chi-town.  Do y’all remember last year’s Monday night football game  against the Bears at Ford Field, and how exciting it was!!!  That was my first Monday night football game I ever attended, and it was insanely fun!  The energy was electrifying and the Lions never looked better!

At that game I had the pleasure of being invited to Jahvid Best’s suite with his family to watch the game.  Through mutual friends I’ve met Jahvid and his family several times. They are the nicest family, and Jahvid is just a sweetheart.   That night every time Jahvid got the ball his Mom would look away, and then kind of peak up to see what happened.  During that amazing 88 yard TD Jahvid had that night, we were going crazy in that suite!!!  His Mom then told me why she can’t watch.  She’s afraid of her son getting hurt.  Jahvid unfortunately has suffered quite a few concussions in his career.  That Monday night game belonged to Jahvid!!  My photo with him was after the game. He was so happy that the Lions won, and the plays he was able to accomplish.

There after Jahvid suffered another concussion in the game against the 49ers.  He hasn’t suited up to play a game with the Lions since.  Concussions in the NFL are a big deal these days because back in the day they weren’t, and so many former players suffer now as a result.  Brain damage, and other health issues. Some players have committed suicide because they fall into a deep depression.  It’s the scary side of football.  Lots of efforts are being made nowadays to protect players like improved helmets, more studies on head injuries, and stricter rules from doctors and their teams.  I’m sad that Jahvid can’t play in tonights Monday night game and perhaps never again, but if that’s what’s needed  for his health then I’m glad he’s not.   Go LIONS and let’s reflect back on Jahvid’s amazing 88 yard TD!
