The Detroit Tigers scored on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning to beat the Oakland A’s 5-4. That gave the Tigers a 2-0 lead in the American League Playoff series. Don Kelly scored the tying run on a wild pitch in the eighth, then hit a bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth. Detroit overcame three A’s leads to squeak out the victory.
It was 1-1 before a final three innings that included an error by Oakland center fielder Coco Crisp, two game-tying wild pitches and a few momentum changes. Triple Crown winner Miguel Cabrera doubled twice for the Tigers, then hit the fly ball that Crisp dropped for two runs. He also singled in the ninth.
But it was what Pitcher Al Alburquerque did on the mound that has the A’s upset. Before making the 3rd out in the ninth he kissed the ball and tossed it to first. Check out the play here. Detroit will go for a sweep of the division series match up in Game 3 tomorrow in Oakland.
