With social media being used more and more everyday, survey results from Tomorrow’s Workforce show that one in five job-seekers would turn down a job if the employer banned access to social media. The problem is less that people are addicted to social media, or need to always be on their Twitter, Facebook etc but the problem is more that people do not like the restrictions!
This reminds of back in the day in High School when my school would put blocks on the internet so I could not get onto certain sites. I remember we even figured a way around it (something like make it https instead of just http) however even that, with time, the school ended up blocking! Bottom line for me is it is a thing of trust. If a company wants to hire you and thinks you are a good candidate for the job then they should trust you to do your job and not need to block sites. Also with so many jobs, including mine, social media can be used as a tool to help you with your job!
With all that in mind I still do not know if I would turn down a job just because they will not allow me on social media. First off, its hard enough to get a job therefore turning a good one down for a reason like this is not a great idea. Second off, we all have iPhones or smartphones and I am pretty sure we can just get on social media that way, got to love those loop holes!
