Retiring Ann Arbor Car Dealer Gave Employess $1,000 Bonus For Each Year Of Service

Don’t you wish your boss was this nice? 90 or so employees at a car dealership in Ann Arbor got some bad news recently. Their 83-year-old boss had sold the family-owned business and was announcing his retirement after 47 years. The employees expected a goodbye speech some thanks and maybe a hug.

But Howard Cooper pulled out a bag and started calling out the names of his employees. Cooper was handing out bonus checks to celebrate his retirement. Employees got $1,000 for every year of service at the dealership. The cashier/receptionist at the dealership has been there about a year.

Some employees have been at the dealership for about 40 years. That meant a $40,000 gift from the boss. Cooper started the dealership in 1965 on what was then farmland about a mile from the University of Michigan campus. What’s the biggest bonus you received?
