Michigan Father Runs Triathlon While Carrying His Disabled Daughter

How awesome is this, Rick van Beek from Byron Center, Michigan, completed a triathlon while carrying his 13-year-old daughter.

She has cerebral palsy. She cannot walk or talk.  He carried her across land and through water so that she could complete the event too. The 39-year-old man completed the 0.3-mile swim, 12.4-mile bike ride and 3.1-mile run with his daughter.

For the swimming portion, he tugged his daughter through the water in a kayak and then pulled her behind him in a cart as he cycled. He ran the last leg pushing her in a buggy.

He said, “she is my heart and I am her legs” and that he wanted to complete the events with his daughter because she adores being outside. Check out some of the race video here.
